It has been fantastic to see so many people this spring for our events programme, thank you for your support.
There are lots of highlights still to come including what will be a fascinating talk this evening from Tim Hughes on Wales’ Best One Hundred Churches. Whether you came to see Simon Jenkins or missed him it is very much worthwhile coming to listen to Tim. Tickets are available on the door.
We have tickets left for all the other events below including Frank Gardner and Vince Cable at The Leisure Centre. Wales' Best One Hundred Churches

Tim Hughes celebrates the great unheralded treasures that are Wales' churches. With a special focus on local churches in his beautiful collection this is an evening not to be missed.

Gwent County History Volume Three with Professor Ralph Griffiths
Thursday 21 May 7.15pm at The Drill Hall Chepstow
The General Editor of the definitive series on Gwent County History, Professor Ralph Griffiths gives an authoritative talk on the third volume. Expect a highly engaging evening from an excellent speaker who will deal with the early modern period of Welsh history, from the creation of Monmouthshire by the Act of Union in 1536 to the beginnings of industrialization in the later eighteenth century.

Forgotten Welsh Houses and A Royal Home in Wales

Mark Baker and Michael Tree present an illustrated talk on their new books and answer your questions. “Forgotten Welsh Houses” is a lavishly illustrated guide to a huge number of derelict Welsh mansions, smaller houses and buildings that are currently at risk of being lost to posterity. “A Royal Home in Wales” takes you through the keyhole of Prince Charles' new home at Llwynywermod, amazingly the first royal home situated in Wales since the time of the English Civil War.

Frank Gardner
Saturday 30 May 2pm at Chepstow Leisure Centre
Frank Gardner is the BBC Security Correspondent, reporting for television and radio on issues of domestic and international security.
At this special afternoon talk he will discuss his new book “Far Horizons” and his lifetime of extraordinary travels. He will focus on the often strange, sometimes dangerous, adventures he has had in many of the world’s most out of the way places, both before and after the crippling injuries he sustained in a gun attack in Riyadh in 2004.

Vince Cable
Saturday 30 May 7.15pm at Chepstow Leisure Centre
Vince Cable, 'the sage of the credit crunch' ("Daily Telegraph") explains how we got here and where we're going, detailing the causes of the world economic crisis and how we should respond to the challenges it brings.
He shows that although the downturn is global, the complacency of the British government towards the huge 'bubble' in property prices and high levels of personal debt, combined with increasingly exotic and opaque trading within the financial markets, has left Britain badly exposed.

Stories in Welsh Stone
Wednesday 3rd June 7.15pm at the Drill Hall Chepstow
Geoff Brookes has a curious pastime, seeking out the stories that lie behind grave stones. For him, more than anything else, these memorials bring the past alive. They are not stories only about death; but more about life. Tonight he will be discussing his new book and introducing us to the fascinating history of Henry Martens who is buried in Chepstow and John Renie buried in Monmouth.

Award-winning photographer Charles Hawes presents an illustrated talk on his inspirational new book “Discovering Welsh Gardens.” With a special focus on local gardens “The Veddw” in Devauden, “Wyndcliffe Court” in Chepstow and “Dewstow” in Caerwent this is a glorious look at the twenty most interesting and liveliest gardens in Wales.

Bumper Book of Nature

A lifelong birdwatcher and naturalist, Stephen Moss works at the BBC Natural History Unit where he has produced programmes including Springwatch, Autumnwatch and The Nature of Britain. He is also the author of the “Birdwatch” column in The Guardian. Tonight he will be inspiring us to get out this summer and discover the endless bounty, beauty and fascination of nature right on our doorstep.

Portrait of Monmouthshire

Nick Jenkins is an award-winning landscape photographer and author of several acclaimed books. Tonight he will be sharing with us some of the photographs in his new book, exploring the county and showing its incredible diversity.

Harry Potter and Chepstow

To celebrate the re-release of “Quidditch Through the Ages” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” J.K Rowling’s former Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts/ Wyedean, John Nettleship, aka Professor Severus Snape, presents an illustrated talk to uncover secrets of Chepstow’s relationship with Harry Potter.
An event for Harry Potter fans of all ages and an amazing opportunity to discover more about the influence of the people, buildings and countryside of Chepstow, Tutshill and the surrounding area on author J.K. Rowling who lived here from the age of nine.
