Old Woolworths Store in Chepstow

The Chamber of Commerce has received good news about the old Woolworths Store.
Davis and Sons, the keyholders, have informed us that the current owners are working on the store to bring it into suitable condition for new tenants. Apparently among other problems, it has asbestos in the building which needs to be removed before a new business can move in.
Providing all goes to plan "The Original Factory Shop", a northern business which is expanding into Wales will be taking over the premises. They are already advertising for management jobs which shows how serious they are.
We hope that it will encourage others to take the leases on the other empty premises around the town centre.
As you know the Chamber has approached major High Street names such as Marks and Spencers to no avail) .
If you visit The Original Factory Shop's website, on their background information they say:-
"We aim to be part of the local community, bringing local jobs for local people that would not normally be found, regenerating shopping centres that would otherwise remain empty, providing an increase in customer traffic for local retailers as well as ourselves and breathing life into these otherwise quiet streets"
I am sure that the businesses in Chepstow, as well as our customers are going to be pleased to see the empty Woolworths shop filled. Its been a sad, sad sight over the last four months! Lets hope that this is the start of a feeling of more positivity in and about our town.
